  The thankless life of the Big Dog

  there is always somebody that wants what you have, unwilling to do what it takes to get it legaly.

  it leaves us feeling threatened and vulnerable.

  so we get a big dog to protect our homes, property, and in extreem instances, our lives.

  There is always somebody that wants what you have, unwilling to do what it takes to get it legaly.
  It leaves us feeling threatened and vulnerable.
  
  So we get a big dog to protect our homes, property, and in extreem instances, our lives.
  That one Big Dog can and does often provide a sense of security for homes close to the dog's owners home.
  
  Sure, the would-be-intruder, need fear personal injury most on breaking inot the dog owners home, but even just a barking dog can deter intruders, and protect the adjoining homes in the neighborhood.
  
  Having the big dog comes at a cost, feeding it, cleaning up after it, and filling in the holes it digs. Only the owner is burdened with these tasks. These tasks are usually done with much bitching and complaining, the Big Dog is only doing what it does. The neighbors complain that the Big Dog barks too much, or about the less than pristine condition of the dogs back yard. Seldom do they express appreciation for the dog's presence as a deterence to crime.
  
  If there were no "bad guys" we wouldn't need the Big Dog. Be that as it may, I'll gladly pooper scoop, fill in the holes in the yard and ignore politely the neighbors complaints. It is a small price to pay for a relative sense of safety in my world.
  
  We can't all carry a sword.

  I hit the big 40 in December and I too just started school. I am fortunate to have a supportive wife. She encouraged me to go back and get a degree otherwise I would never have done so.

  i just got back from going to the nasher sculpture museum in downtown dallas.

  they are having a showing of a rare collection of picasso paintings and sculptures that everyone is talking about.. i'm starting to wonder... maybe i'm not as cultured as a thought.

  nearly every time i looked at one of his works i found myself thinking: "what the hell was mug smoke'in when he did that?

  I checked out the link and looked at the painting. While I appreciate the meaning he was trying to put across, the time and energy expended to do so, to me that gives it little value. After all the Edsil was created for a specific purpose and much time, skill and energy was spent in its coming to be and how is it remembered?

  Back to the art question though, the same argument can be applied to music. Has anyone else heard Farkle's stuff?
  
  I checked it out the other day and you can hear the artistic skill in his music. That is art. I was thinking about how sad that music such as his is grouped unfairly with the crap that bleeds from the open sunroofs of some of the vehicles I drive alongside during my days. Cursing and extolling violence and sex to a drum beat is not art!
